SALMON FISHING

Oregon offers world class Salmon fishing almost year around. From the famous Buoy 10 at the mouth of the Columbia River to the other many bays and rivers there is always a run of Chinook or Coho Salmon to chase.

We have several runs of Chinook Salmon to go after. First is our Spring Chinook Salmon. These are by far the best eating Chinook we get. The run starts in March and goes through June. We chase these fish on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. The peak time is usually the last week of March into April on the Columbia River. The Willamette River fishes through June.

The next run of Chinook Salmon we get are summer chinook. This run starts in June on the Columbia River and only fishes for about a month. Its a short season but offers some large fish. Also known as June Hogs. We typically anchor and fish spinners for these fish.

Next we start our Fall Chinook season. This kicks off August 1st and we fish clear into November. We start out in the Lower Columbia River either in the Ocean or in the River at Buoy 10. As the fish move we move up the river with them. By October Matt is in the Mid Columbia either fishing the mouth of the Klickitat or Deschutes.

As the fish move up river our tactics also change a little. We still almost always troll but we may fish flashers and baits, or various lures. As we reach the Mid Columbia we also hover fish eggs. If you haven’t hover fished eggs for Chinook you really should get out and do it. It is a blast.
